Carowinds is a 400-acre amusement park, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, that has been thrilling visitors since opening in 1973. Carowinds has two of the tallest steel roller coasters in North America, and with 13 different rides, it ranks 5th in the world for having the most roller coasters in one park. Carowinds is the place where the Carolinas come together for world-class attractions and hair-raising adventures.

From September through October, Carowinds transforms from a "theme park" into a "scream park" called SCarowinds, that's filled with over 500 monsters, immersive mazes, spine tingling scare zones, thrilling shows, and more! You'll navigate through the darkness of horrifying haunted mazes, discover a world of living nightmares in the elaborate scare zones, get into the Halloween spirit with a ghastly collection of live shows, and you can still enjoy all of your favorite rides, which stay open at night and take on a new thrill as you ride through the dark.

Carowinds also features Carolina Harbor, a massive 27-acre waterpark with everything from giant water slides and wave pools to large play structures and a three-acre kids' area. From mild to wild, Carolina Harbor is the coolest place to slide, splash, chill, and dine, and admission is included with your Carowinds park admission.

New for 2018, Carowinds introduces Camp Snoopy, a fun-tastic adventure that's just for kids, with six attractions including junior rides like Pig Pen's Mud Buggies and a soaring Camp Bus, and an 8,000-square-foot climb and play area with plenty of shade.

If you're ready for a break from the thrill rides, Carowinds also has a wide variety of shows, like the sensational aerial stunts, precision choreography, stunning imagery, and a lively injection of humor from Seasons of Cirque, or disco funk from the 70's, hits of the 80's, rock from the 90's, and the best country music through today from the Decades Live band.

Theme park rides include:
Fury 325 – A "giga coaster" with a height of 325-feet, making it the tallest giga coaster, the fifth-tallest roller coaster, and the fastest non-launched roller coaster in the world, reaching speeds of up to 95mph, making it the sixth fastest roller coaster in the world. At over 1.25 miles long, it's also North America's longest steel coaster, and the average ride time of 3.25 minutes provides you plenty of time to enjoy the experience!

Afterburn – Modeled after the high-flying speeds and gravity defying maneuvers of a fighter jet, Afterburn has been thrilling riders since 1999. It's the park's 3rd tallest and fastest roller coaster, with a 113-foot first drop, and 62 mph top speeds. The ride includes six inversions, including a space drop, a vertical loop, an Immelmann (an actual maneuver used by fighter pilots), a zero "G" roll, a batwing, a flat spin, and a spiral.

Carolina Cyclone – A steel roller coaster featuring two vertical loops and two corkscrews, the Carolina Cyclone was the first roller coaster in the world with four inversions.

Hurler – A classic wooden "out and back" roller coaster, Hurler features an 83-foot initial drop, 50 mph top speeds, and unexpected pops of air time that are guaranteed to leave you wanting more.

Intimidator – This steel hyper coaster was inspired by the famous stock car racing driver (and North Carolina native!) Dale Earnhardt, and is one of the tallest, fastest, and longest of its kind in the Southeast. The 232-foot-tall roller coaster travels up to 80mph, and features seven extreme drops spread out over three minutes of ride time.

Nighthawk – The Carolina's first flying coaster, Nighthawk lets you ride below the track, facing the ground, just like a hawk. It's the closest you'll feel to flying without growing wings! The ride includes a 115-foot lift hill, eight thrilling inversions, top speeds of 51 mph, and 2 minutes of ride time.

The Flying Cobras – A "boomerang" roller coaster, The Flying Cobras sends riders through a 360-degree loop, as well as a cobra roll at speeds up to 50 mph. When you finish the first direction, make sure to catch your breathe because you're about to fly through the entire ride again, but this time, you'll do the whole ride backwards!

Vortex – The first stand-up steel roller coaster in the South, Vortex is a classic ride that evokes a sense of nostalgia in many seasoned park-goers, as it's been thrilling visitors since its much anticipated debut in 1992. Vortex includes a 90 foot lift hill, 50 mph top speeds, and 2.3 minutes of ride time.
